What's in the bag: Yuto Katsuragawa's journey via 81 clubs to victory at the Genesis Championship

Few can claim to have sought to turn around their fortunes through equipment alterations like Yuto Katsuragawa.

Since his debut appearance this season at the BMW Australian PGA Championship, the Japanese has used six sets of fairway woods, six sets of irons, six putters, four drivers and two balls.

An equipment-free agent, he has used 81 different clubs from a range of manufacturers. The one area of his bag that he has trusted enough not to change when in play is his PING G440 hybrid.

Across his 28 starts so far on the 2026 Race to Dubai, following the completion of the Genesis Championship where he claimed his second DP World Tour title on Sunday, the Japanese made changes to his bag in all but two events he played.

Through his opening nine events, he used 43 different clubs. Of those, he made 12 changes alone in one week ahead of his first top ten of the campaign at the Hainan Classic presented by MAEXTRO.

Before then, he had already undergone his first big overhaul to his club selection, using his second set of irons and first change of wedges and putter at the Investec South African Open Championship.

Across a run of five consecutive starts from South Africa's national open to China's equivalent, Katsuragawa used three putters among a series of other alterations.

After using three different PING drivers in his first 13 starts of the season, he ended that run by using the TaylorMade Qi4D LS for the first time at the Soudal Open.

By the DS Automobiles 83° Open d'Italia, shortly after the halfway point of the season, Katsuragawa had already made the third switch to his golf ball, reverting to the Titleist Pro V1x from the Pro V1 and brought into use his fifth set of wedges, and from a third different manufacturer.

Across the second half of the campaign, the frequency of alterations has slowed down, with the most notable changes being among his irons and reverting to the TaylorMade Spider Tour X with which he started the season.

Depending on course situations, he has used two different utility irons, while also using three and four irons from various sets.

For his victory in South Korea, when the stakes were high as he sought to climb into the top 100 on the Race to Dubai Rankings Delivered by DP World to retain his playing privileges, he brought his driver back into play after opting not to use it a week earlier in India and carried two fairway woods.
