British Amateur Champion at Nairn in 1994 and runner-up in the European Amateur Championship the same season. Turned professional after helping Great Britain and Ireland win the Walker Cup at Royal Porthcawl in 1995. Won his maiden Challenge Tour title the following year in the 1st Modena Classic. Won the 2002 Challenge Tour Rankings with then record earnings thanks largely to three victories in the same season, but lost his European Tour privileges in 2003. Two largely unproductive seasons on the Challenge Tour followed, but rediscovered some of the form that made him the 2002 Number One to win back his place on The European Tour by finishing the 2006 season in 16th place on the Rankings. Suffered another frustrating season in 2007 but took sixth place at the Qualifying School to earn another shot at The European Tour. Returned to the Challenge Tour in 2009 after again losing his playing privileges on The European Tour, but quickly banished that disappointment by winning the ALLIANZ Open Côtes d'Armor Bretagne after a play-off with German rookie Florian Fritsch.
