The MyGolfLife Open hosted by Pecanwood Estate takes place this week, from January 28 – February 2 as the second of four co-sanctioned events with the Sunshine Tour. Here are three players to look out for…
Form horse – Maximilian Steinlechner
Maximilian Steinlechner is enjoying his time in South Africa, as is evidenced by his last two outings. Prior to the Road to Mallorca season getting under way, the Austrian flew out early to South Africa, taking up a Sunshine Tour invite for the Mediclinic Invitational. The 25-year-old would go on to birdie the closing hole of that event to secure a stunning victory. Last week, in the HotelPlanner Tour season-opener, he continued his good form, finished tied 12th amongst a strong field in the SDC Open.
Local boy - Shaun Norris
Shaun Norris tees it up this week having won on the DP World Tour just over a month ago and is arguably one of the form players in world golf right now. Following his victory in the Alfred Dunhill Championship in December, he finished tied sixth in the Hero Dubai Desert Classic two weeks ago – the opening Rolex Series event of 2025 – and recorded another top 20 last week in the Ras Al Kaimah Championship. Those results see him sit third in the Race to Dubai Rankings. He’s likely to impress this week.
The outsider – Baard Skogen
Baard Skogen earned playing status for 2025 by coming through the first two stages of DP World Tour Qualifying School before making the 72-hole cut at Final Stage. Off the back of that, the Norwegian has a sensational start to life on the HotelPlanner Tour, posting rounds of 68-69-71-68 to end the week tied fifth. The 23-year-old, who enjoyed a success amateur career playing collegiate golf, could be a breakout star this year.
