Pablo Larrazábal celebrated a hole-in-one on his way to carding a four-under-par 68 in the second round of the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship.
The Spaniard holed his tee-shot at the 192-yard par-three second with a six iron at Royal Golf Club on Friday for his third ace on the DP World Tour, leading to jubilant reactions on the tee.
After starting at the tenth, Larrazábal was one under for his front nine before his moment of brilliance was backed up with a birdie at the par-five third and six consecutive pars to round out his day’s work.
“We planned a three quarter six iron, and it never left the flag," he said. "It’s great to suddenly see the ball go in."
It is his fifth hole-in-one in competition, with two coming on the HotelPlanner Tour, while he also made one in a practice round in his homeland at Valderrama.
With the club captain of Royal Golf Club among those watching the moment unfold, Larrazábal enjoyed the opportunity to showcase his showmanship qualities.
“I don’t try to entertain people, I try to have fun and when you have fun, you (often) entertain people," he added.
“The captain of the club, my partner in the Pro-Am the last two years came [to watch] from the first and then the second shot he saw me hit went in.
“And then he left, he’d seen everything! It was great to do it in front of him.”
Larrazábal, a nine-time winner on the DP World Tour, sits one shot adrift of early 36-hole clubhouse leader Andrea Pavan in Bahrain.
There have now been four holes-in-one on the 2025 Race to Dubai, following MK Kim at the BMW Australian PGA Championship, and Daniel Gavins and Adrien Saddier at the Ras Al Khaimah Championship.
