Halvorsen secures promotion to DP World Tour

Andreas Halvorsen has secured promotion to the DP World Tour after recording a tied second-place finish in the Kolkata Challenge.

The Norwegian received a medical exemption for six events during the 2024 Road to Mallorca, before ending the campaign 40 Ranking points outside of the promotion places. Due to that, he had six events of the 2025 Road to Mallorca to gain the 40 points he needed to graduate to Golf’s Global Tour.

The 28-year-old racked up 645 points in just 13 starts last term, including a maiden HotelPlanner Tour win which came in the Danish Golf Challenge, and after the Rolex Grand Final supported by the R&A, ended the year 27th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings and 40 points behind the last graduate, Lucas Bjerregaard.

After gaining the required Ranking points in three starts in 2025, he will now take his place on the DP World Tour and has been added to DP World Tour Category 15(a) for the remainder of the 2025 Race to Dubai.

Halvorsen, who recorded a tied fifth finish in the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open on the DP World Tour at the start of the 2025 Race to Dubai, is now set to tee it up in Singapore this week and was delighted to confirm his promotion in Kolkata.

“It’s awesome,” he said. “It’s been stressful constantly thinking about making the points and I’m just so happy that I’ve finally got them and that I’m going to play on the DP World Tour.

“I kept trying to tell myself that if it didn’t happen that I’d still have a good season and that good things are going to happen, but every time I teed it up, it was all I was thinking about.

“This week I was good at just trying to play a good event and not worrying about how many points I needed.

“It was nice after the first three rounds to get to a stage where I knew I had the points, and I could just worry about finishing off this week well.”

Halvorsen earned promotion to the HotelPlanner Tour from the Alps Tour in 2023 and made an instant impact with victory in only his fifth start of 2024.

The Norwegian, who received invites to play on the HotelPlanner Tour as far back as 2015, says those early experiences coupled with the past 12 months have been an important part of his development.

“It’s been great and really cool,” he added. “I got a few invites when I was just starting out as a pro and definitely wasn’t good enough to play here.

“I went over to the States for a while, and I’ve had a great time coming back here. Last year was so much fun.

“I was obviously a bit disappointed with the end of the season and not being able to play, but there’s so many cool places we go to, and this week is another that’s been incredible. I’ve really enjoyed it.”
