The HotelPlanner Tour returns to Sweden this week for the Dormy Open by Creekhouse at Kristianstad Golf Club and Destination in Åhus. Here’s all you need to know…
New venue
Kristianstad Golf Club, located in the south of the country near the Danish border, makes its debut on the Road to Mallorca this week having previously hosted the European Ladies Amateur Championship, Kristianstad Ladies Open and the Ladies European Tour.
The club, originally located at Rinkaby Military training ground, moved to its current location in 1940 with the 18-hole lay-out completed in 1969. Ten years ago, Pierre Fulke and Adam Mednickson oversaw a major overhaul to the course, with the venue ranked the third best in Sweden back in 2020.
Kristianstad Golf Club has also been at the forefront of women’s golf in the country with the likes of Anna Berg, Mia Lojdahl, Sara Eklund and Sarah Nilsson all coming through then youth system before going on to play the Ladies European Tour. The Creekhouse Ladies Open, the most recent LET event staged in Åhus, was won by home favourite Maja Stark, with her compatriot Linn Grant in second.
Swedish legacy
The HotelPlanner Tour has a rich history in Sweden with the country first appearing on the schedule during the tour’s inaugural season in 1989, with home favourite Anders Gillner winning the Wermland Open by one stroke.
In fact, this week’s event marks the 106th time the HotelPlanner Tour has visited the country, as Sweden continues to cement itself as a key destination in the Tour’s history, with France the only nation to have hosted more events. Matts Lanner, the Tournament Director at this week’s Dormy Open by Creekhouse, is a four-time winner on the HotelPlanner Tour with all of his victories coming in his native Sweden, with three of them, rather impressively, coming via play-offs.
Home favourites
With the Nordic Golf League – one of the HotelPlanner Tour’s Official Satelitte Tours – continuing to churn out talent, several Swedes have made a case for promotion on the 2026 Road to Mallorca. 34-year-old Christofer Blomstrand appears to be back to his best. The Swede recorded his second HotelPlanner Tour win in Scotland at the start of August and has a runner-up finish to his name which came in his second appearance of the season in Durban. Sitting third on the season-long Rankings, Blomstrand could cement his promotion aspirations on home soil this week. Elsewhere, Adam Wallin currently sits inside the top 20 on what is his rookie campaign. Charlie Lindh is another to keep a close eye on with the 29-year-old yet to finish outside the top 15 in his three starts this year.
