Tyrrell Hatton achieved a career-goal by reaching the top 10 in the Official World Golf Ranking for the first time following his victory at the BMW PGA Championship.
When Tyrrell Hatton claimed his fifth European Tour title – and third Rolex Series win – during Sunday’s BMW PGA Championship, he achieved more than one career goal.
Not only did he realise a 24-year-old childhood dream attached to an event that he’s been attending since he was five-years-old, but he also reached a career high of 10th in the Official World Golf Rankings.
Hatton has now joined a prestigious list of fellow golfers as he becomes the 10th Englishman to reach the top 10 in the Official Golf World Rankings.
He follows in the footsteps of Sir Nick Faldo, Lee Westwood, Justin Rose, Luke Donald, Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Danny Willett, Tommy Fleetwood and David Howell. Of that number, four (Faldo, Westwood, Donald and Rose), have reached World Number One.
For Hatton, the feat is another check on a list of goals.
“To break inside the top 10 in the World is incredible” he said following his win. “That was a goal of mine in my career, and I’m delighted that these two have come in the same week.”
“This is such a massive event and to get over the line and win here is such a special feeling.
“It’s a dream come true for me really. As a five-year-old walking around here I always wanted to be inside the ropes playing when I grew up.”
The win also moves the Englishman up a staggering 72 places to eighth in the Race to Dubai Rankings with 1,453.0 points.
He is now just 789.7 points behind the leader Patrick Reed.
