European Tour star Fabrizio Zanotti made history for his home nation over the weekend after winning Paraguay’s first ever gold medal in the Pan America Games at Lima Golf Club in Peru.
The two-time European Tour winner emerged from a three-way playoff, alongside Jose Toledo of Guatemala and Chile’s Guillermo Pereira, to claim gold after all three finished regulation play on 15 under par.
The 36 year old, whose best finish on the 2019 Race to Dubai came courtesy of a tied runner-up finish at the Oman Open in March, was delighted to claim an historic gold for his home country.
“I couldn't let the opportunity escape one more time after missing out on regulation play,” Zanotti told AroundtheRings.com. “I concentrated, convinced myself and hit the putt. I'm really happy and ready to enjoy it.”
