Dale Whitnell wore goggles on the opening day of the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters in a bid to prevent his eyes from being irritated in the desert.
Having struggled with his eyes in this part of the world, the Englishman opted to wear goggles on Thursday and the decision appeared to pay off as he fired an opening 71 in windy conditions at Doha Golf Club.
With this week's event signalling the end of the desert stretch at the start of 2025, Whitnell will be hoping to be back in the Middle East with his goggles for the DP World Tour Play-Offs in November.
During an on-course interview at last week's Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship, Whitnell said: "I struggle with the eyes so I've got my goggles ready.
"No sun in my eyes!"
