Consistency was key in India as SSP Chawrasia held his nerve to defend his Hero Indian Open title. Let’s take a look at what’s in his bag.
After fantastic second and third rounds, the Indian native found himself two shots clear at the top of the leaderboard as he began the final day’s play. As others faltered in the testing conditions, the 38 year old finished with a 71 and an overall score of ten under par, moving up more than 180 places in the Race to Dubai in the process.
Steady in numerous aspects of his game, Chawrasia placed 12th in driving accuracy, hitting 69.5 percent of fairways using his TaylorMade M2 (10.5°). As a self-proclaimed short hitter it is no surprise he placed 67thin average driving yardage with 266, proving the worth in the phrase ‘drive for show and putt for dough’.
Helped by his great play off the tee, it is no surprise to find that the four-time European Tour winner, armed with his Ping I 200 irons (3-9), hit 66 percent of greens in regulation, placing 31st in this metric.
Often praised for his excellent short game, the now two-time Hero Indian Open winner placed an impressive 3rdin cumulative putts per round, with an average of 26.8. The winning combination of Titleist Vokey wedges (54°, 60°) and an Odyssey Metal-X 6 putter proved invaluable as the local hero won by a comfortable seven shots.
