Leading the initial 54-hole stroke play by five shots Rumford took the innovative new format well in his stride, concluding the week's play with a two and one victory over Thailand's Phachara Khongwatmai.
Claiming a sixth European Tour win, his first in almost four years, Rumford received a much needed boost after losing his playing privileges last season. Speaking after his victory, the Australian said it 'meant everything' to be back, and that he 'couldn't be happier' to return to winning ways.
Armed with his Titleist 917 D2, Rumford found the fairway well during the course of the four days and this, paired with consistent approach play from his Titleist 716 T-MB irons, meant his five shot lead on Saturday afternoon was by no means a surprise. Surrounded by an exuberant crowd on the final day, the Australian held his nerve, putting his iron tee shot within a few feet on the par three fifth.
Rumford's wedge play was also impressive all week, showcased on the final day by his magnificent recovery shot into the fourth green. The Australian found himself in a tricky position amongst the trees but managed to find the short grass using his Titleist Vokey SM6.
With his approach play in such good form, his Titleist SC Futura-X Proto gave little cause for concern, as putt after putt rolled smoothly in.
