Ten events into the 2015 season and Andy Sullivan has already become our third two-time winner. The Englishman joins Branden Grace and Anirban Lahiri as the three players who have picked up two titles this campaign.
The 28 year old has been flying high since he won a trip to space at last year’s KLM Open. Before that event, Sullivan had played 76 events on The European Tour with no wins and just four top five finishes. Since his famous hole in one, he has played 14 events, won twice and notched five top five finishes.
So what was the key to his Joburg Open success?
The answer: consistency and the ability to finish. Sullivan has shown this season that he enjoys being in the spotlight and has the game and the temperament to perform under pressure. He birdied the par five 18th hole on both Saturday and Sunday and dropped just two shots in his final 42 holes en route to victory.
He ranked in the top 20 in Driving Accuracy (67.9 per cent), Driving Distance (302 yards) and Greens in Regulation (80.6 per cent) which allowed him to take 123 putts for the week and still take home the trophy. That is the highest number of putts from a European Tour winner since Paul Casey took 124 putts at last year's KLM Open.
Sullivan has been a Ping player since he turned pro back in 2011 and he used a bag full of Ping clubs to win. Here’s a look at his set make-up.
