South African Jaco van Zyl will make his debut in this year’s AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open, which heads to the Four Seasons Golf Club at Anahita from May 12-15.
The 37 year old enjoyed the best season of his career in 2015, recording five top ten finishes on the European Tour – including third place at the Open de France and runner-up in the Turkish Airlines Open – to end the campaign 21st in the Race to Dubai.
This season Van Zyl, who has won 13 times on the Sunshine Tour, has added another two top tens – both on home soil – and he will be looking to win the lion’s share of the €1,000,000 in Mauritius.
Victory would be a huge boost to his Olympics hopes, as he is currently in position to qualify alongside top-ranked South African Branden Grace, after Louis Oosthuizen and Charl Schwartzel ruled themselves out of selection.
Ryan Dodds, Chairman of the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open Organising Committee, said: “Jaco van Zyl is one of the most exciting golfers to watch at this year’s event. He had a stellar 2015 European Tour campaign and we are delighted that he will be at the tournament. We wish him all the best.”
A strong field is set to assemble for the tournament, which is tri-sanctioned between the European, Asian and Sunshine Tours.
Australian Scott Hend, rising Chinese star Li Haotong, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh and defending champion George Coetzee have all confirmed their attendance.
