Tournament History

Re-established in 1976, the Irish Open is one of Ireland’s most prestigious sporting and social occasions. The event is held on key dates on the European Tour calendar and each year attracts a world class field of top professionals.

Some of the Ireland’s most world-renowned venues have hosted our national title – these include Portmarnock, Killarney, Mouth Juliet, Druids Glen, Ballybunion and Fota Island.

The unique festival atmosphere that is synonymous with the Tournament, attracts circa c70,000 spectators annually. The event showcases Ireland to an international audience of 300 million homes, in 5 continents, during 500 hours of television coverage.
