Heading into the final round with a five-shot lead, he carded a closing six-under-par 65 at TPC Scottsdale to secure a dominant victory and become the first Belgian to win on the PGA TOUR.

Detry finished with four consecutive birdies for a 24 under par total, with American pair Daniel Berger and Michael Kim joint second at 17 under in Arizona.

"It's incredible, it's what dreams are made of," said Detry, who was congratulated by his wife and two children on the 18th green.

"That walk on the last hole was incredible.”

It is Detry's first professional win since the ISPS HANDA Melbourne World Cup of Golf for Belgium alongside Thomas Pieters in 2018.

Prior to this week, the 32-year-old had recorded two runner-up finishes on the PGA TOUR across 67 starts.

"I have given myself plenty of chances in the past and never been able to conclude [so] to be able to put out a statement like that is pretty incredible,” he added.

“I am just over the moon, so happy.”

With his victory, Detry rises to a career-high 22nd in the Official World Golf Ranking, and improves his hopes of appearing in the European Ryder Cup team under Captain Luke Donald later this year.

After extending his commanding overnight lead to six on the front nine, the advantage was reduced momentarily to two by playing partner Berger, before Detry responded with a birdie of his own at the par five 15th.

He then hit a brilliant tee shot at the par three 16th stadium hole in front of a raucous crowd to set up a tap-in birdie to ease any nerves as he sealed his victory in style.

“Considering the circumstances, [it is] one of the best shots of the week and my life, definitely,” he reflected.

Former World Number One Jordan Spieth and South African Christiaan Bezuidenhout were tied in fourth place on 16 under.

Scotland's Robert MacIntyre shared sixth place on 15 under with American Will Chandler and two-time Major winner Justin Thomas, who finished with a 103-yard walk-off eagle.
