The European Tour moves from Sun City in South Africa to Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai with four players still in the running to win the Race to Dubai as the season reaches its climax.
Open Champion Henrik Stenson leads the Race to Dubai Rankings presented by Rolex by almost 299,675 points over Masters Champion Danny Willett, with Nedbank Golf Challenge and four-time winner Alex Noren trailing his fellow Swede by 633,436 points. Defending Race to Dubai champion Rory McIlroy is 1,176,414 points behind Stenson, meaning all four players can still be crowned the European Tour's Number One this coming Sunday.
Following a superb campaign which saw him lift his first Major at The Open Championship, Stenson has the upper hand as he looks to win the Race to Dubai for the second time after his previous success in 2013. McIlroy, the Race to Dubai winner for the past two seasons, has to win to have any chance of being crowned Number One for a fourth time, while Noren needs a top two finish and Willett at least a top five.
Here are various permutations on how the Race to Dubai can be won and lost:
• For McIlroyto win the Race to Dubai, he needs to win with Stenson finishing outside the top 45, Willett outside the top five and Noren outside the top two.
• For Noren to win, he needs a minimum top two finish. If he wins the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, Stenson can still win the Race to Dubai by finishing second.
• If Norenfinishes second, to win the Race to Dubai he needs Stenson to finish outside the top eight and Willett outside the top two.
• If Willett finishes fourth, Stenson needs to finish inside the top 30 to stay ahead of him.
• If Willettfinishes third, Stenson needs a top nine finish to remain ahead of him in the race.
• If Willettfinishes second, he wins the Race to Dubai if Stenson finishes outside the top two and Noren does not win.
• If Willett wins the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, he wins the Race to Dubai regardless of other results.
• Stenson wins the Race to Dubai if none of the above scenarios unfold.
