Callum Shinkwin played down his expectations of back to back wins ahead of the 2020 Aphrodite Hills Cyprus Showdown.
The 27-year-old from England claimed his maiden European Tour title over the same Aphrodite Hills Resort layout in last week's Cyprus Open.
But with a new format to contend with – 105 players will be reduced to 32 after two rounds, with scores reset, before the top 16 compete in a single-round showdown on Sunday – and with his win still sinking in, Shinkwin is keeping his expectations in check.
“I’ve been taking it easy these last few days, suddenly the wind and rain has come,” he said.
“It hasn’t sunk in yet. I guess I’ve got to wait until I get home – I can’t see family that much when I go back either but I’ve still got my wife and child, so that’ll be nice.
“It took me a couple of days to go through all my messages. You’re getting phone calls left, right and centre, non-stop. It was great to see so many people get in touch.
“[The format] inspires birdies, lots of birdies. I’ve enjoyed myself and after your first time win it’s tough to perform again. I’m not expecting too much. I’ll just ride the wave.”
Another player with recent course form is Scotland's Robert MacIntyre, who finished in a share of third last week.
That was MacIntyre's best finish of the season and the 24-year-old is keen to put himself in contention again.
“The resort has been brilliant, the course is great and the food is even better – so a happy Bob,” he said.
“I played great last week. Obviously disappointed not to get across the line - a bit of bad luck here and there, that almost stopped us. It’s the right movement in the right direction.
“The format is different. I don’t know what to expect. It’s a golf course I like, so I’m going to shoot as low scores as I can and take it as it comes.
“This one is completely different to what anyone expected – there’s someone happy at the end of the week, no matter the format. We’re just going to go out and enjoy our golf.”
