Robert MacIntyre has pledged to donate money to the late Doddie Weir’s foundation for every birdie or eagle he makes at the 105th US PGA Championship.
The two-time DP World Tour winner is competing in the second men’s Major Championship of the year at Oak Hill Country Club, with the first round beginning in the state of New York on Thursday.
MacIntyre will contribute £500 for every birdie, and £1,000 for every eagle while he will also carry the foundation’s name on his bag.
The My Name’5 Doddie Foundation was set up by the former Scotland rugby international Weir after he was diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2016.
“Doddie was a huge personality both on and off the pitch, and will always be loved and respected far beyond the rugby world,” said MacIntyre.
“Like everyone, I was inspired with the way that Doddie dealt with MND, and also the drive and enthusiasm he put behind raising money to help fund research to find effective treatments.
So, if we can raise some money this week to help his Foundation continue his legacy, then that is something I will be very proud of.”

MacIntyre, who is chasing a maiden Major success, has recovered from a back injury which forced the 26-year-old to withdraw from his DS Automobiles Italian Open title defence earlier this month.
The Scotsman will begin his US PGA Championship campaign alongside fellow Hero Cup player Sepp Straka of Austria and America’s Harris English at 5.58pm (BST).
