'Proud' Marcus Armitage hopes to continue fine form

A "proud" Marcus Armitage hopes to continue the fine form that saw him finish second at the 2025 Ras Al Khaimah Championship as he seeks to give himself more opportunities to win tournaments.

The Englishman made a blistering start to the week at Al Hamra Golf Club, posting a superb 63 for the first-round lead before backing that up with a 69 on Friday to take a two-shot advantage into the weekend.

Saturday saw him overtaken at the summit by eventual winner Alejandro del Rey but he remained very much in contention heading into the final round, where he did not put a foot wrong, carding a bogey-free 68 to reach 18 under par.

With Del Rey keeping his foot firmly on the gas on Sunday to get to 22 under, Armitage's efforts were not enough to secure the trophy but he took plenty of positives from the week.

He said: "Alejandro was fantastic today and I battled hard. I didn't really get it going early doors, which put me behind the eight ball.

"But I'm proud of myself. I've played well, I've broken down a few barriers that I didn't think I could do, like leading after the first round.

"I broke a lot of them this week so I can overcome them. And I can lead a tournament, I can have a good weekend.

"It wasn't my weekend but I'm sure there'll be some in the future and it's been good.

"With the points that I've picked up today, I can plan a schedule a bit clearer now and have a little bit more time at home.

"I'll just build on it. It all starts again tomorrow.

"This time next week there will be someone else picking up another trophy and hopefully I can take this form into next week and give myself a chance of that."
