The ARCHIE Foundation, the Official Charity of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, enjoyed a resoundingly healthy start to this year’s Championship with £35,000 being raised from Pro-Am day at Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.
The charity based at Royal Aberdeen Children’s Hospital benefitted from a number of initiatives during the morning and afternoon Pro-Ams, which saw every professional golfer involved in the high profile tournament curtain raiser donate his Pro-Am appearance fee to the ARCHIE Foundation.
Additionally, nine of the world’s leading players donned Tartan Trews, which resulted in Aberdeen Asset Management donating a sum for each player sporting the colourful garments during their round.
Just to round off a superb day for the Official Charity, a number of generous benefactors made donations to play in the Pro-Am, contributing towards the grand total of £35,000 before the main event teed off over the Balgownie links on Thursday.
David Cunningham, Chief Executive of the ARCHIE Foundation, commented: “We are delighted with the fantastic amount raised by everyone involved in the Pro-Am, which has given us am amazing kick start to this special week for the ARCHIE Foundation. It’s a privilege and a pleasure to be the Official Charity and we thank The European Tour and Aberdeen Asset Management for their support.”
David Park, Charity Executive for the European Tour, said: “Aberdeen and the professional golfers are fully behind the tournament’s charitable activities and the donation of the Pro-Am fees ensures that our support of this wonderful local charity gets off to a good start. We thank everyone who contributed.”
