Joel Moscatel is targeting a second victory on home soil this season as he prepares to tee it up in the Challenge de Cádiz at Iberostar Real Golf Novo Sancti Petri.
The Spaniard has been in scintillating form on the Road to Mallorca, with a victory and two other top tens in his last three Challenge Tour starts propelling him into third position on the season-long Rankings.
The 25-year-old birdied his final hole to secure a fairytale maiden Challenge Tour victory at the Challenge de España last month in Seville, and he admits it has finally sunk in as he looks to continue riding the crest of a wave in Cádiz.
“Winning in Seville was so special for me, and I have had time to take everything in over the past week,” he said. “My family, friends, caddie and coach were with me, and it was amazing. It was a perfect week to be honest.
“I’m still waiting to have a big celebration, but it is going to be a good one. I get quite nervous playing at home in Spain but last time I handled it very well. There are a lot of people you don’t want to disappoint and there is a lot of pressure.”
Moscatel is looking forward to tackling the tough layout in Andalucía and hopes to harness home advantage to triumph in front of the Spanish crowds once again this week.
“It’s not a bad thing to be nervous and hopefully I can use these nerves to my advantage this week,” he added. “I would love to win here again but I know how difficult that can be. My friends will be here again and I’m going to enjoy this week as much as I can.
“The weather will affect the winning score so much because there can be so much wind around here. This course is so good and the rough is very thick so it is important not to miss greens or you can get some pretty difficult lies. You have to play very well here and I’m looking forward to getting out there.”
Moscatel will be joined by Road to Mallorca Number One Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, Number Two John Parry, seven-time DP World Tour winner Alvaro Quiros and former champions Sam Hutsby and Pep Anglés as a strong field assembles for the fourth edition of the Challenge de Cádiz.
Round one will get under way at 8:00am local time, with Moscatel teeing it up alongside Neergaard-Petersen and five-time DP World Tour winner Alexander Levy at 2:00pm.
