Local amateur Antonio Ferrer marked his European Tour debut by taking a share of the early lead in Mallorca.
The 21 year old birdied the first, seventh and eighth holes to be three under par and was setting the pace with Ireland's Gary Murphy and Scot Jamie McLeary in the Iberdrola Open Cala Millor Mallorca at Pula.
Murphy, who had to go back to The Qualifying School last November to regain his European Tour card, set off on the back nine and picked up shots at the 11th, 14th and 15th.
McLeary, 24th on last season's Challenge Tour, birdied the first, third and sixth.
Four of the world's top 100 and were also among the early starters.
Bristol's Chris Wood was one under after eight, Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño level par and both Swede Peter Hanson and Ryder Cup Dane Søren Hansen one over approaching the turn.
Ferrer slipped back to one under after 15, but McLeary added another birdie on the ninth to turn in a four under 31.
He did then bogey the 12th, but a fifth birdie two holes later gave him a one stroke lead over Spain's Alvaro Velasco and Jose Manuel Lara, Frenchman Raphaël Jacquelin and South African James Kingston.
