Robert MacIntyre has been crowned September Golfer of the Month presented by DP World after receiving 54% of the public vote. His victory at the DS Automobiles Italian Open made it back-to-back wins for Scotland in this vote following Ewen Ferguson in August.

The 2019 Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year won his second DP World Tour title in dramatic fashion at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, defeating the reigning U.S. Open Champion Matt Fitzpatrick in a play-off.

Starting the day three shots behind overnight leader Fitzpatrick,  the Scot went on a front nine tear taking just 29 strokes to hit the top of the leaderboard. Despite back back-to-back bogies on the back nine, the popular left hander birdied his final hole to card a best of the week 64 to set the clubhouse target of 14 under-par.

Fitzpatrick matched MacIntyre’s score with a birdie of his own on the 18th as the pair headed for a play-off at the 2023 Ryder Cup venue, a place that looks destined to deliver dramatic finishes next September. MacIntyre stepped up and found the fairway as Fitzpatrick found the rough on the left side before hitting a bullet to the heart of the green that ended up just on the fringe. With Fitzpatrick failing to get up and down, MacIntyre secured the title with a chip and a putt of his own from close range.

Second in the voting was Irishman Shane Lowry, who won the BMW PGA Championship, adding a further Rolex Series title to his CV following his victory In Abu Dhabi in 2019. The Major winner has made me no secret that winning at Wentworth was high on his career bucket list, having come close on several occasions over the years, and he duly delivered at the famous venue in Surrey.

The tournament was played over three rounds following the suspension of play on Friday in memory of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.  Due to the soft conditions across the West Course, it turned into one of the most action-packed final rounds of the season. Trailing Ryder Cup teammates Viktor Hovland by two shots and Rory McIlroy also one ahead of him, Lowry produced  a final round 65 and went bogey free for the week to vault himself into ten in the DP World Tour Rankings.

Guido Migliozzi was  third after picking up his first win since 2019 at the Cazoo Open de France at Le Golf National. The Italian  fired a bogey-free 62 at one of the toughest courses on the DP World Tour schedule, with his peers commenting that that round may never be topped. The highlight was a 202-yard, five iron over the water onto 18 green to set up just one of two birdies there for the entire day.

Rounding off the voting was Oliver Wilson who won his first title since 2014 at the Made in Himmerland in Denmark. The Englishman, has seen it all from Major Championships and the Ryder Cup, to losing his playing rights as recently as 2018 to spent a season on The Challenge Tour. However, the 42-year-old came out on top from a packed leaderboard where four players were tied for the lead entering the final round. A bogey free final round 67 was enough to walk away with the trophy by a single shot over Scotsman Ewen Ferguson.
