Laurie Canter has won the International Swing following his runner-up finish at the Investec South African Open Championship.

Already at the top of the standings prior to last week’s penultimate event of the Swing, the Englishman claimed 334 points with his play-off defeat to South Africa’s Dylan Naidoo at Durban Country Club on Sunday.

Canter has amassed 1,256.20 Swing points from his four starts, and with nearest challenger Tyrrell Hatton not in action at the Joburg Open, the 35-year-old holds an unaissable lead.

Jacques Kruyswijk, who occupies fourth spot in the Swing rankings and is the closest player to Canter teeing it up, is 574.95 points behind, with 500 points on offer to the winner this week at Houghton Golf Club.

As the winner of the global Swing, Canter gains entry into all of the DP World Tour's Back 9 events and claims a US$200,000 bonus.

Across his four starts on the Swing, he has been a picture of consistency.

After finishing third at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic on the Rolex Series, Canter then claimed his second DP World Tour title at the Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship in a play-off before finishing tied 35th at the Commercial Bank Qatar Masters.

He missed the Magical Kenya Open presented by absa, but finished second in South Africa as their national open was reduced to 54-holes due to inclement weather.

His form has seen him climb to a career-high 42nd in the Official World Golf Ranking, thus earning him an exemption into The PLAYERS Championship and putting him in line for a debut at The Masters next month.
