Laurie Canter: What's in the bag?

We take a look in the bag of 2025 Bapco Energies Bahrain Championship winner Laurie Canter.

With the aim of aiding a low ball flight in the winds at Royal Golf Club last week, Canter included a Ping I Crossover three utility iron in his bag instead of his Ping G430 19-degree hybrid.

This was the only change to his club set-up from his solo third-place finish at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic last month, where he – like many DP World Tour players – made changes to his bag.

At the opening Rolex Series event of the season, he added the Ping S159 50 and 54-degree wedges along with the Ping PLD Tyne putter.

While those moves have helped in his fine start to the new year, which sees him second on the Race to Dubai Rankings, it is further up in his bag where he is ranking among the best on Tour.

Tee to green, he is second only to Ryan Fox for strokes gained (+1.84), while he is third when it comes to that measurement off the tee (+0.89), gaining nearly a full stroke compared to the average.

He has used the Ping G430 LST driver since the 2023 Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, having previously used the Ping G410 LST driver, while the G440 LST three wood first went into his bag at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

His maiden DP World Tour title at the European Open last year coincided with him implementing the Ping Blueprint S irons.

“Last night I had a chat with my coach Mike Walker, and he gave me a couple of ideas to improve my iron play,” said Canter, in his post-round interview after emerging from a three-man play-off with Pablo Larrazábal and Daniel Brown to win on Sunday.

“I hit the ball great today and putted terribly. It’s just kind of how it goes.”
