Italian Challenge returns to Terre Dei Consoli Golf Club

The Italian Challenge will head to Terre Dei Consoli Golf Club in Monterosi, Italy, for a second time when it runs from June 27-30.

The tournament, which was first played in 2007, has been staged at five different venues in its history, and while no player has won the event more than once, Edoardo Molinari became the first, and still only, Italian to win his home-event when he triumphed in 2009.

It was a banner year for Molinari, who also won the Piemonte Open and the Kazakhstan Open on his way to becoming Challenge Tour Number One and graduating to the European Tour, where he has since won three times.

The last time Europe’s top developmental Tour visited Terre Dei Consoli Golf Club, in 2016, Johan Edfors emerged victorious to claim his fourth Challenge Tour win in difficult conditions.

The Swede carded rounds of 66-69 on the weekend, going nine under par over those final two rounds to jump from tied eighth to the winner’s circle — erasing a four shot deficit and completing the most recent Italian Challenge to be played at Terre Dei Consoli Golf Club with a three-shot margin of victory.

The eighth tournament to count towards the season-long rankings, the Italian Challenge’s €300,000 prize fund will be the largest of any Challenge Tour event on European soil in 2019.
