Fleetwood shows promise
Australian Daniel Gaunt took advantage of a final hole bogey by amateur sensation Tommy Fleetwood to secure his maiden Challenge Tour title at the 2010 English Challenge.
The duo reached the par three 18th at Stoke by Nayland Hotel, Golf and Spa level on 17 under par, however Fleetwood rushed his birdie attempt four feet past the hole and missed the return. Gaunt converted a par putt from three feet to capture the title.
Fleetwood secured his first Challenge Tour victory at the 2011 Kazakhstan Open and has since become a five-time DP World Tour winner, including two Rolex Series events. The Englishman has also represented Europe at the Ryder Cup in 2018 and 2021.
Lewis on fire
Tom Lewis won the 2018 Bridgestone Challenge by five shots to return to the winners’ circle after a seven year absence. The Englishman carded a seven under par final round of 64 to triumph at Luton Hoo Hotel, Golf and Spa to secure victory for the first time since his 2011 Portugal Masters success on the DP World Tour.
Just two weeks later, Lewis won again at the Portugal Masters on the DP World Tour, the same tournament he won in 2011.
Kings of Leon
Hugo Leon finished with back-to-back birdies to earn an emotional first victory on European soil at the 2021 British Challenge Presented by Modest! Golf Management at The Belfry Hotel & Resort.
The Chilean bounced back from a double bogey on the par three 15th hole to post a three under par round of 69 and reach 19 under par, one stroke clear of playing partner Oliver Bekker, who finished second on 18 under.
The 36-year-old was unable to compete for 15 months due to travel difficulties posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, therefore making the victory extra special for the man from Santiago.
