The Investec South African Open Championship will go straight to an afternoon play-off after the fourth round was cancelled on Sunday due to a flooded course at Durban Country Club.
Laurie Canter of England and South Africa’s Dylan Naidoo hold a share of the 54-hole lead at 14 under and will go head-to-head on Sunday at 15.00 local time.
After a marathon day of action on Saturday which saw the completion of both the second round and then the entire third round, the scheduled final round began at 06:10 on Sunday.
However, only Chris Paisley, who was playing on his own, managed to complete his round before play was suspended at 09:10 amid persistent rain.
A decision was taken to suspend play for the entire day, and round four was later cancelled. A ‘hole-by-hole’ play-off over the 18th will determine the winner at 15.00.
Heavy rainfall from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning led to areas of the course being submerged and a three-hour delay to the scheduled first round tee times on Thursday.
The co-sanctioned DP World Tour and Sunshine Tour tournament is the penultimate event in the International Swing on the 2025 Race to Dubai, with the Joburg Open scheduled to start on Thursday.
