France’s Victor Dubuisson was pleased to make a winning debut at the WGC-Accenture Match Play, but believes he will need to improve to reach the latter stages in Arizona.
Dubuisson, who enjoyed a breakthrough win at the Turkish Airlines Open in November, overcame American Kevin Streelman 5 and 4.
The 23 year old won four of six holes around the turn in a decisive spell, but with his opponent only making one birdie in the opening round, a winning start Dubuisson’s World Golf Championships was always on the cards.
“The first few holes I didn't play really well,” said Dubuisson, who now faces fellow European Peter Hanson in the last 32.
“So going off, it woke me up, and then I was able to play well and made some good birdies.
“It's exactly what I expected - a great event of golf, the best players in the world. I think after today, I have to elevate my game.”
