Form horse: Robin Sciot-Siegrist
Robin Sciot-Siegrist has made an impressive start to the 2024 Road to Mallorca, including a tie for fourth place finish at last week’s Bain's Whisky Cape Town Open. The Frenchman finished 11th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings in 2022 to earn promotion to the DP World Tour for the second time in his career, however he struggled to find a level of consistency and lost his playing priviledges last season, and returns to the Challenge Tour looking to rejuvenate his career. The 30-year-old, who is yet to taste victory on the Challenge Tour, will be looking to carry his strong performance in the Mother City into the Dimension Data Pro-Am this week.
Local boy: Oliver Bekker
One man who knows this venue arguably better than anyone else in the field is South Africa’s Oliver Bekker. The 39-year-old moved to George in 2020 and became an ambassador of Fancourt Golf Estate, making it his new home course. Bekker used the familiar surroundings to his advantage last season as he secured a sensational four-shot victory at the 2023 edition of the event with his family watching on. The eight-time Sunshine Tour winner could enter the history books this week by becoming the first man to win the Dimension Data Pro-Am on three separate occasions.
The outsider: Martin Couvra
Martin Couvra has proven his winning pedigree in South Africa. The Frenchman became the first European to win all three of South Africa's major amateur titles at the start of 2023, before becoming the seventh amateur in history to win on the Challenge Tour after coming out on top in a play-off at the Challenge de España. The 21-year-old turned professional shortly after his maiden victory and went on to earn his place at the Rolex Challenge Tour Grand Final supported by The R&A, subsequently finishing 46th on the Road to Mallorca Rankings. Couvra has made an impressive start to the 2024 campaign, including a tie for sixth place at last week’s Bain's Whisky Cape Town Open, and will be looking to build on that this week in George.
