• There are 20 Spanish professionals taking part this week. Since the event became part of The European Tour International Schedule in 1972, Spain has seen success on nine occasions. Players to have won are: German Garrido (1973), Manuel Piñero (1974, 81, 85), Francisco Abreu (1976), Antonio Garrido (1977) and Seve Ballesteros (1980, 82, 89).

• The La Moraleja II is staging this event for the first time. The course last staged a European Tour event in 1997 when Mark James defeated Greg Norman to win the Spanish Open. The venue also played host to the 1992 World Cup of Golf, won by Fred Couples and Davis Love III.
