Eduardo De La Riva replaced Nicolas Colsaerts in the record books at Ravenstein Royal Golf Club of Belgium on the final day of the Telenet Trophy as the Spaniard set a new course record of 64.
Because Colsaerts’ course record of 65 was over a par 72 lay-out at the stunning venue in Tervuren, outside Brussels, but De La Riva’s seven under par round of 64 over the par 71 lay-out now stands as a new record.
De La Riva’s round came courtesy of a one under par front nine of 34, before he began to rack up the birdies on the back nine, starting with one on the 10th before three in a row from the 12th and he finished in style with an eagle on the par four 18th to sign for a six under par back nine of 30.
“I played very well today,” said the 29 year old. “Unfortunately I had two bad days this week but I was really happy with my round today. I putted well and it was a nice finish for the week going into next week with a bit of momentum.
“On the 18th I hit a good drive just about eight feet past the pin just off the green and I putted that in so it was nice.”
De la Riva’s seven under par round moved him to three under for the tournament.
