Daniel Young got a pleasant surprise in round two of the Volvo China Open as he made the first hole-in-one of the week at Enhance Anting Golf Club.
The Scot sent a four iron away on the 230-yard par-three second but when he got to the putting surface and could not see his ball, he feared he had missed the green.
He was soon told, however, that it was in the hole and he was left celebrating the seventh hole-in-one of the 2026 Race to Dubai season.
“I used a four iron, it was a good shot!” he said.
“The wind was a little off the left. I was actually going to hit it full and my caddie said to take a little off it so I smoothed it.
“We were rocking up there and there was only two balls on the green and I thought I’d run off the left or something but one of the guys said it had gone in. It was a nice bonus!
“That’s my eighth but only my second one in competition. They’re much better when they’re in competitions.”
Young will head home with a model Volvo EX90 for his troubles and while it may not quite be the real thing – with an EM90 available for an ace on the 16th – he was delighted with his prize.
“It’s a great little prize there,” he said. “Shame it’s not the big one that’s on 16 but it’s much appreciated.”
Young's effort was not the only hole-in-one of the day, with Jake Vincent finding the bottom of the cup at the 12th with a six iron from 184 yards.
"I saw it go in," he said. "It's very cool, what an amazing accomplishment. I did not expect to come out here and have a hole-in-one today. My first tournament hole-in-one.
"I had the wind a little off the right so I just tried to hold off a cut into the wind and it was the best shot I hit all day."
The American also got a souvenir to take home in the shape of a model Volvo ES90.
