D+D REAL Czech Masters - Day one digest

Everything you need to know from the opening day in Prague.

Pieter Moolman finished with a flourish, Brandon Robinson Thompson joined the VIPs and Brandt Snedeker went for a walk.

Here is everything you need to know from Thursday at PGA National OAKS Prague.

Six of the best

Pieter Moolman finished with six consecutive birdies to complete a first round of 64 and lead the way, with six players tied for second a shot behind. The South African defied his pre-round expectations as he said afterwards: “I expected the back nine to be the tougher nine, but you know, golf's a funny game. I hit some good shots, but you're not shooting 29 if you're not making putts."

Take it to the Max

German pair Max Rottluff and Max Kieffer were in the large group just behind Moolman, along with Brandon Robinson Thompson, Richie Ramsay, Jesper Svensson and Sung Kang. Rotluff was unsurprisingly happy with conditions at PGA National OAKS Prague, a new venue for the DP World Tour, and was reminded of Landeryds Golfklubb in Vesterby where he won last year's Indoor Golf Group Challenge. "I love it," he said. "It reminds me a little bit of, I won on the Challenge Tour last year in Sweden, I feel like the grass is similar. The greens are probably up there with the best greens we'll play on all year, so a fantastic venue."

Ill in-tent

Robinson Thompson was on track for a bogey-free round and a share of the lead until an unscheduled trip to the VIP hospitality behind the 18th green. After finding the bunker in front of the dance floor with his second shot, the Englishman sent his third careering wildly over the flag and was only rescued by the spectator facilities. When it was mentioned in his post-round interview, he responded: “Funny you should ask. I hit it right down the middle. Fatted it into the bunker and then if it didn't hit the grandstand, I think it would have gone 100 yards over the green. Dropped it out the VIP tent and then holed an 18-footer. Kind of pleased with that finish but also a bit annoying, but it is what it is.”

Lightning can’t strike twice for Snedeker

Brandt Snedeker’s idiosyncratic putting style delivered at the fifth hole, and he knew it from 10 feet short of the hole. The veteran was on the walk again at the tenth, but this time was left with a wry smile.
