Scotland's Calum Hill claimed his second DP World Tour title in style as he beat home favourites Jacques Kruyswijk and Shaun Norris in a play-off to win the Joburg Open after coming from eight shots back to earn a share of the lead after 72 holes.
After all three players parred the first play-off hole, a par was good enough for Hill to win it at the second just as lightning arrived in the area, after Norris found the water and Kruyswijk missed his five-foot putt.
The win ends Hill's wait for a second DP World Tour title, having secured his first at the 2021 Cazoo Classic.
Hill turned in 31 in his final round after carding five birdies and a bogey on the front nine before following up another birdie at the 11th with a hat-trick from the 13th to storm into contention and join the lead for the first time.
The lead had changed hands throughout the afternoon as favourable scoring conditions and runaway third-round leader Norris' double bogey at the 12th contributed to the leaderboard becoming extremely bunched on the back nine.
After a bogey on the 16th saw him slip from the summit, Hill birdied the last from five feet, thanks in no small part to a fortunate bounce off the bank, to sign for a stunning 62 and set the clubhouse target at 14 under par.
That took him level at the top with Kruyswijk, who had four holes left to complete, while Norris and others were also still in with a chance of hunting down the clubhouse leader, with plenty of holes remaining.
A bogey from Kruyswijk at the 15th boosted Hill's chances but Norris birdied the 16th from range to join the group just one shot behind Hill.
Kruyswijk moved alongside Hill at the top once more with a five-foot birdie on the 17th before a monster birdie putt from Norris at the last sparked wild celebrations from the crowd and made it a three-man play-off.
There was nothing to separate the trio at the first extra hole but after watching his 20-foot birdie putt come up agonisingly short at the second, a par proved enough for Hill to clinch victory.
Hill said: "It's awesome. A little bit surprised there, I thought we were having to go again (to another play-off hole).
"And then (the lightning) is ridiculous so I don't know what was going to happen but yeah, I'm delighted.
"It was a fantastic day and this is the cherry on top.
"Getting the birdie on the 18th was the only way I was going to have a chance. I got lucky with the bounce up the slope and made a nice five-footer and then it gave me a chance to have a go in this play-off.
"You never know how a play-off is going to go. I think that might be my first play-off ever so it's nice to have a 1-0 record on that."
The final round was a roller coaster for in-form South African Norris, who went into the day with a four-shot lead but surrendered bogeys at the first and second to have his advantage cut in half.
After steadying the ship with pars on the third and fourth, the 42-year-old got the shots back with birdies at the fifth and sixth to restore his healthy lead.
He led by one at the turn after bogeying the ninth and, shortly after he was overtaken at the top by a charging Dylan Frittelli, Norris made a double bogey on the 12th to slip to 12 under.
He battled back with birdies from around 20 feet on the 16th and 18th to book his place in the play-off but slipped in the bunker at the second extra hole and ended up sending his second shot into the water.
Kruyswijk made six birdies and two bogeys in his 66, while Frittelli finished one shot back in fourth after firing two eagles in his 63.
Sunday's thrilling conclusion brought down the curtain on the International Swing, with Englishman Laurie Canter finishing top of the standings.
