Billy Horschel to make BMW PGA Championship defence in September

Billy Horschel will defend his BMW PGA Championship title when the prestigious event returns to Wentworth Club from September 9-14, 2025.

The American won the event for the second time last year, following on from his triumph in 2021, after defeating Rory McIlroy and Thriston Lawrence in a thrilling play-off on the West Course at the iconic Surrey venue.

Lawrence was eliminated on the first extra hole, and on their second trip down the 18th, both Horschel and McIlroy had long-range eagle putts after finding the green in two. McIlroy’s effort slid just by the hole, but Horschel made no mistake as he holed out from distance to win his second BMW PGA Championship and second Rolex Series title.

It was the 2014 FedExCup champion’s second worldwide victory of 2024 after claiming his eighth PGA TOUR title at the Corales Puntacana Championship in April. The 38-year-old also recorded his best career finish in a Major Championship that summer as he finished runner-up to countryman Xander Schauffele at The Open at Royal Troon.

“I’m incredibly proud to have won the BMW PGA Championship for a second time, particularly in the manner in which I did it last year,” said Horschel. “I really gave it my all to have a chance to compete for the title and then to go up against Rory and Thriston in the play-off was a thrill.

“It truly is one of the most special weeks of the year, and with everything else going on off the golf course there is such a great atmosphere. It’s a world-class golf course with a world-class field and I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing at Wentworth Club again as the defending champion.”

Horschel joins McIlroy as players already confirmed for this year’s event, with tickets on sale now via this link. Ticket+ and Premium Experience options are also available and fans are urged to secure their tickets early to avoid disappointment after a record attendance at last year’s event.

The BMW PGA Championship Festival of Golf takes place just outside central London, attracting more than 100,000 spectators across the week, with the world class action inside the ropes complemented by live entertainment on the Showstage and an unrivalled atmosphere in the Spectator Village.

The star-studded Wednesday Celebrity Pro-Am will bring together global celebrities alongside some of golf’s most famous players in the traditional fun-filled curtain raiser to the main event.

BMW group owners will once again receive preferred parking benefits, with park & ride and shuttle services from local train stations also available free of charge to all spectators.

The Rolex Series event assumes a key position on the 2025 Race to Dubai as part of The Back 9 and will also form part of Luke Donald’s Ryder Cup side’s final preparations ahead of Europe’s showdown in golf’s greatest team contest against the United States at Bethpage Black in New York a fortnight later.

In 2024, general admission sold out across Friday, Saturday and Sunday, whilst all Ticket+ packages sold out on tournament days. Click here to purchase tickets. Ticket+ packages and Premium Experience options are also available.
