Andy Sullivan came home in 28 to break the course record at Laguna National Golf Resort Club with a 63 and put himself right into contention heading into the weekend at the Porsche Singapore Classic.
The Englishman has never been scared to go low in his DP World Tour career, having carded two 61s and a 62, with this being his fifth round of 63.
Starting on the tenth, he took advantage of two of the three par fives on the back nine but came to life from the first, picking up five shots in four holes before adding further gains on the sixth and eighth to get to nine under.
That meant he played holes one to nine in nine shots fewer than on day one and the four-time DP World Tour winner was happy to get a reward for his solid play.
"It was a weird one today," he said. "It felt very slow and a bit sluggish to start with and then I just went ballistic on the back nine.
"I don't really know what happened. The putter got hot and I hit a lot of good shots so it was good.
"It was unreal, I just caught fire. Knocked it close on one and holed a good one on two and then literally three feet for eagle on three.
"It felt like from there onwards you can push on a little bit, especially on that nine where you feel like you can get at the pins a little bit more. I just went for it and it paid off.
"I felt like I played well yesterday without the score being there but golf being the crazy game that it is, it has a way of rewarding you sometimes."

Sullivan already has more top tens this season than he had in the whole of the 2023 campaign and feels he knows where he has to improve to change consistency into a victory.
"My driving has not been that great," he said. "I got away with a couple today. My iron play was on form today and the putter as usual was performing.
"If I can keep it in the fairway, I feel like I can keep making scores so it will be important for me on the weekend to focus on that and get it in play.
"There's always room for improvement. I just feel like I need to commit to my shape off the tee and trust it a little bit more."
