Alexander Levy keeps his cool for fast start in Spain

Alexander Levy was pleased to be cool, calm and collected as he fired his lowest DP World Tour round for ten months at the Estrella Damm Catalunya Championship.

The Frenchman has endured a roller coaster few years since missing most of 2022 with a back injury, losing his card the following year and then regaining it via the HotelPlanner Tour only to lose it again last season.

He then suffered the agony of missing out by one at the Qualifying School, meaning he is now having to try and build a season and regain his playing privileges once more with limited starts.

It was that that made rounds of 77-77 and a missed cut at last week's Turkish Airlines Open so frustrating but after an opening 65 at Real Club de Golf El Prat, the five-time DP World Tour winner was pleased with his recovery.

“It was nice," he said. "I had a tough week last week and I was a little bit upset so I am really pleased with what I did today and a really good round. Nothing to say, just some really good shots and I holed a couple of putts.

“I think I was like a kid that didn’t have his candies last week. I was really upset after that because it looks like I didn’t have the experience and I was frustrated on the golf course, so today I managed myself to be really calm.

"For sure I hit some good shots and that has helped."

Starting on the tenth, Levy registered just one birdie on the back nine but made four on the front to go with a hole-out eagle from 92 yards on the fifth.

"I don’t know why I love Spain," he added. "Good atmosphere, good crowd and I think the golf courses are tricky, so I like to manage to play on that kind of course where you need to shape balls and I think it suits my game."
