Advantage Day in Austin

Jason Day established a three hole lead over Louis Oosthuizen as the WGC-Dell Match Play moved towards its conclusion at Austin Country Club.

Day, who will go back to the top of the Official World Golf Ranking on Monday, is undefeated this week in Texas and had overcome Rory McIlroy in his semi-final while Oosthuizen, who also holds a 100 per cent record, had beaten Rafa Cabrera Bello.

And the 28 year old made three birdies in six holes to the turn to move to the brink of a second victory at this tournament in three years.

Oosthuizen played the first beautifully, leaving himself 12 feet for birdie and, while he missed that putt, a Day bogey moved him one up.

However, his second on the third hole resulted in a drop and Day was back on level terms before the Australian put his tee-shot on the fourth to 11 feet and made the birdie to move ahead.

Day's sensational approach to the fifth was conceded for a birdie but Oosthuizen put his own to nine feet and made the birdie before both men scrambled messy pars at the next.

It was advantage Oosthuizen after the tee shots on the seventh but the 2010 Open Championship winner needed three from just off the edge and a Day par extended the lead to two.

Both men parred the eighth but an approach to seven feet yielded another Day birdie on the ninth and the lead was three as they headed to the back nine.

In the consolation match, Cabrera Bello was one up on McIlroy through 11 holes.
