Bowling for success
There’s a touch of the Ryder Cup here for Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy and indeed myself here on Saturday as a torrential downpour has forced the players off for nearly four hours. I’ve not seen rain like since, well, since Celtic Manor. It’s biblical. We’ve not had much luck with the weather so far. Last night it was the lightning, which as our pictures show, even managed to destroy a couple of trees on the course. I think that’s what the rules officials allude to when they call a dangerous situation. Certainly not one to be holding a golf club in. Now it is the rain. Luckily for the players Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club has a ten pin bowling alley, just next to the players’ locker room. As you can imagine, that was something of a hit with the players during the protracted suspension. The likes of Rory McIlory, Charl Schartzel, Louis Oosthuizen and Martin Kaymer were all down there chasing a strike. Judging by our pictures though their technique needs a bit of work. Stick to the golf I think guys!
Coming of age
Turning 18 is always something of a landmark is a person’s life. In most countries it is when you are considered an adult, when you can vote, when you can drink alcohol. Matteo Manassero reaches that ‘milestone’ on Tuesday. It’s not been a bad first 18 years for the Italian, has it? Youngest winner in European Tour history, Rookie of the Year last year, leading Amateur in The 2009 Open Championship where he played alongside Tom Watson. That’s just off the top of the head.
