A history of holes-in-one at the BMW International Open

Since the BMW International Open made Golfclub München Eichenried its annual base once again in 2019, the tournament has averaged a hole-in-one in every edition.

Absent from the DP World Tour schedule in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there have been seven aces across the last six editions.

Holes-in-one have been made on all four of the layout's four par-three holes - the second, eighth, 12th and 17th.

But it's not just on par threes that we have seen holes-in-one, with Vincent Normann making a hole-in-one albatross on his professional debut in 2021.

Three aces were made in 2023 alone, while 2022 is the only year since 2019 where a moment of perfection has not been seen.

The hole-in-one prize - typically at the 17th at Eichenried - includes a handover of keys to a luxury new car,

In recent years, Gaganjeet Bhullar (2019) and Matthis Besard (2024) have had their shots to remember caught on camera.

Founded in 1989, the DP World Tour event has been held across three venues - Eichenried, Golf Club Gut Laerchenhof and St. Eurach Land-und-Golfclub.

Across the 36 editions of the tournament, there have been 28 holes-in-one to date. Of those, 20 have come at Eichenried.

For a time, the list of players with a BMW International Open hole-in-one was a short one. After Raphaël Jacquelin became the ninth different player to make an ace in 2001, it took nine years for another.

Among those to make a hole-in-one in the tournament's history are stars of European golf Colin Montgomerie, Thomas Bjørn and Sergio Garcia, while recent US PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai realised the feat in 2018.

Jay Townsend, a member of the World Feed's commentary team this week, was the first player to record a hole-in-one in 1991.

Andrew Coltart, a regular member of the global TV coverage team at events on the DP World Tour, also made an ace in 2003.
