Open de España presented by Madrid: Day three digest

Two players lead the way after three rounds at the 2026 Open de España presented by Madrid following some late fireworks.

Here is everything you need to know from Moving Day at Real Club de Campo Villa de Madrid.

Dean bounces back in style

After making eight birdies in his first 15 holes on Saturday to open up a commanding three-shot lead, Joe Dean looked set to slide down the leaderboard when he followed up a double bogey at the 16th with a bogey on the 17th. But he bounced back from that disappointment with a stunning birdie from 31 feet at the 18th to earn a share of the lead on 13 under par alongside Grant Forrest.

Forrest in contention for wire-to-wire win

Grant Forrest remains in contention for a wire-to-wire victory after producing a brilliant burst of scoring on the back nine in his Saturday 67. The Scot began the day with a one-shot lead but slipped backwards after following birdies at the third and fourth with a bogey and five pars in favourable scoring conditions. He recovered brilliantly, though, reeling off birdies at the 11th, 14th and 16th to reach 13 under par and finish the day tied at the top. He said: "This is one of my favourite tournaments - it's been good to me in the past - and I'd love nothing more than to go home with a trophy tomorrow."

Molinari magic

As Francesco Molinari stood over his 53-foot birdie putt at the eighth, he could be forgiven for focusing only on saving par because of the difficulty of the greens. But the European Ryder Cup star judged his putt to perfection and went and holed it for a bonus birdie.
