Everything you need to know from day two in Germany.
Laurie Canter galloped ahead, Tom McKibbin was on the defensive, spin control was the order of the day and Rasmus Højgaard made a monster in round two of the European Open.
Here is everything you need to know from Friday at Green Eagle Golf Courses.
Canter leads the way
Canter fired a brilliant bogey-free round of 66 to take a three-shot lead into the weekend. The Englishman started a delayed day two four shots behind Jannik De Bruyn but in the fading light moved to 12 under to lead the way from the overnight leader and Dane Niklas Nørgaard. Nørgaard had set the target with a 68 before Canter's surge up the leaderboard, while German De Bruyn battled back to a level par 73 having been four over at the turn. England's Garrick Porteous was at seven under with four holes to play, one of 20 players having to complete round two on Saturday morning following a three-hour delay to the start of day two due to a flooded course.
McKibbin making case for the defence
Defending champion McKibbin is hoping history will repeat itself after putting himself in a strong position heading into the weekend. The Northern Irishman entered the final two rounds 12 months ago one shot behind at five under and while his own score is one shot better off this season, he will find himself at least six back with 36 holes to play. The Porsche Nord Course is a very different proposition this year, with heavy rain both before and during the event making a layout that was already a 7,458-yard par-73 play extremely long. But McKibbin is ready for the challenge and in confident mood after opening with rounds of 69-71. "I’m looking forward to the weekend because I’m in a good position on the leaderboard," he said. "Last year has given me confidence where I played well in the final rounds and hopefully I can do the same again over the next couple of days."
Spin doctors
The heavy rain may have made the greens very receptive but you still have to hit the shots and we saw some world-class use of spin on Friday.
Rasmus takes route 66
Just the 66 feet on the green for Højgaard.
Second time lucky
Nørgaard left his first bunker shot on the 18th in the sand. He did this with his second.
